August and Estella are found in Albert Lee, Freeborn, MN in 12 Feb 1918 according to August's WWI draft registation card. Shortly thereafter, they first show up in South Dakota in Armour, Douglas, SD. Their son Robert Leroy passed away there on 2 Nov 1919 only six hours after child birth. His death certificate says he died from internal hemorrhage. They are then found in the Mitchell, SD city directory in 1921. August was listed as a cabinet maker at the Mitchell Planning Mill, residence at 817 E 2nd. From 1923 until death their residence is listed as 809 E 1st. In 1930 August is listed as a furniture upholster and in 1948 he is listed as "furniture repair". For some years in the 30's August was "leader" of Buck Orchestra. In 1930 Estella worked as a clerk at Butterfield's Dept Store and son John was a student in HS.. From 1948 through 1960 Estella worked at Barron Bros.Dept. Store. She was still listed in the 1960 directory as a widow of August but she is not listed in the `1961 directory so I assume that is when she moved to Arizona, possibly with her sister Edna.
